" Ben is the best Chinese teacher I have ever had. My Chinese was in a rough state when I began studying with Ben four months ago. After nearly a decade of several classes, self-studying and several breaks, my Chinese was in a rough, uneven state. Speaking was my weakest component and I had forgotten much of the grammar that I never really learned at school to begin with. Thanks to Ben's teaching, I'm happy to say that after just four months and 4-5 hours a week, I'm speaking much better Chinese. For example, when he noticed I did not speak well but could read passages without problem, we started doing paraphrasing exercises instead. Not only can he answer any language or culture question you throw at him, but he will often generate or compile custom learning material on the topic for your later study and review. His English is excellent and can understand even very vaguely worded questions that we learners often ask. His answers are at the right depth and I have never felt overwhelmed or had to just "let a question go" like I felt many times at university when teachers didn't answer my question but couldn't spend more time on it. After you ask questions about questions and so on and so forth, it can be easy to forget what you were originally talking about. However, Ben is able to bring the conversation back whenever you are satisfied and ready to move on. While he is very patient to answer questions or go down side roads with you, Ben is totally focused, efficient and energetic. You will always get very detailed feedback on different aspects of your conversation or class with him. And finally, and possibly most important for practicing spoken Chinese, Ben makes you feel very comfortable talking with him because he is patient and has a great sense of humor.
